Tuberville to become Texas Tech coach
By BETSY BLANEY, Associated Press Writer

Buzz up! PrintLUBBOCK, Texas (AP)—A person close to the decision tells the Associated Press that Texas Tech has hired Tommy Tuberville as its next coach.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Saturday because the school had not yet announced the decision.

Tuberville will succeed Mike Leach, who was fired last month amid allegations he mistreated a player who suffered a concussion.

The 55-year-old Tuberville stepped down at Auburn in December 2008, ending a 10-year tenure that included a perfect season and a string of teams that contended for Southeastern Conference championships.

Tuberville was 85-40 at Auburn, including a 13-0 season in 2004 when the Tigers finished No. 2 and won the SEC title for the first time in 15 years.

I'm guessing that Tech upped the ante for Tuberville when they suspected USF was going to call him.

Tuberville is the complete opposite of Leach.  Defensive minded and calm.  I suspect his defenses should do well in the Big 12, like Bo Pelini's.

I doubt Tuberville was ever really on USF's radar

I was never a huge fan of his.  He goes through assistants like tissues and never says a word on the sidelines.

To me, that says that all he does is delegate and when times get tough he blames the assistants.

Solid choice for Texas Tech - if they keep their OC and add Tuberville's D they should have a good team year in and year out.  I doubt he ever would have thought about USF as they are slightly above a D2 program - the only thing they really have is RayJay.  USF has some decent talent but 7-5/8-5 every year is not all that impressive.

Didn't TT already fire their OC (Mike Leach) and that slightly above a D2 program whipped your seminoles ....

Who was the guy calling their plays during the bowl game?  If they keep their current offensive staff it would be a nice fit.

Inside Receivers coach, first time he ever called plays.  I just wanted to point out you didn't know what you were talking about.  I know, I should take on more challenging endeavors.

My brother said people are PO that McNeal didnt get the job.

I personally think its a decent hire... if he doesnt screw around with the offense.
