The tavern scene is pure gold because he establishes so many characters, establishes a detailed setting, and builds the tension leading up to what was not more than 20 seconds of incredible graphic violence.

Spot on. Oustanding scene. Thought the opening scene w/ the French dairy farmer was very good as well.

Navy/Schultz didn't like that scene...lol

I hated it because it was dragged out for about 5 minutes too much. Like for a war movie in the trailers that showed all this violence and what not, they took a long friggin time to just even show a short moment where they shoot the floorboards and a jewish girls escapes only to kill the Fuhrer. Not my favorite at all.

LOL.. Your ADD amuses me.

Suh or bust, Dom. You make the call.

Just saw it last night and thought it was one of the best movies of the year. With QT you know you're going to get fantastic dialogue, great character development, perfect casting, and nasty violence. The violence wasn't too much or too little and the first scene is simply amazing.

His style is so old school, loved the movie.

Agree - don't usually like any of  Tarantino's movies. Especially the violence. This one was a good one.

Best picture? Should be nominated, probably won't be.

Inglorious Basterds involved too much dialogue and not enough action imo. The beginning scene was dragged out about 5 mins too much. The scene where they were in the basement drinking was far too long, he drags out his dialogues far too long but they are pretty good for the most part.

It was an ok film, but highly inaccurate and unrealistic. A Jewish woman who owns a theater and can successfully plan an assassination of the German High Command for a movie premier about a sniper who sits in a bell tower of a church that kills 150 soldiers while nobody just decides to blow the damn thing up?

Yeah, too much dialogue sucks for simpletons. Have to think too much

The plot was fantastic, great story.

And if Christoph Waltz doesn't win best actor, I'll never watch the academy awards again....wait, I never watch them anyway.

He should be up for Best Supporting and he has got to be a lock for it.

I would, but you're the only person in the world, other than a few pre-menopausal women, who think "My Best Friend's Girl" is better than Basterds.

Finally got around to seeing this. And yes it was very good.

I wouldnt rate it above Pulp Fiction though as a whole. I think Pulp Fiction had more character development and seemed better planned out in terms of plot development. Not saying character development was bad in Basterds, but Pulp was just better.

But 'Basterds has a very good screenplay and Ill be surprised if Tarantino doesnt at least get an Oscar nomination for it. The opening scene by itself is at least on par with the opening scene in Pulp Fiction.

And those of you bashing dialogue are idiots. Tarantino is one of the few filmmakers out there that understands that making a movie involves more than action. You look at old classics and great movies from decades ago and you realize that it is the dialogue and plot that makes them great, not the action.

Bastards is overrated. It was o.k. But not what it was blown out to be. From all the previews I've seen, it looked like it was going to be full of action, but really just some action with ALOT of dialogue, at times where I could nod off. One thing I would have to say is that the acting was GREAT!
