This is a sticky situation. If the Bucs had gotten blown out in NO, and followed it up with a loss to the Falcons it'd be an easy decision. But ever since Morris has taken over the Defense and chosen Olson as OC, the team has been steadily improving. Morris made some costly mistakes, yes, but honestly do you think ownership didn't EXPECT that to happen? They knew he was going to be learning on the job. They gave us all a lot of lip service about him growing at the position, yet here come the Cowher whispers. On one hand, if Morris beats Atlanta, the Glazers owe it to him to let him coach next season.ÂÂ
On the other hand, Bill Cowher is a proven winner, likely capable of nearly instant success. From a business stand point, he screams "win now". He's a true face of the franchise type coach that lends instant credibility to the team. Guys like him don't become available every year. If the Glazers roll the dice with Morris, and Morris fails, how long would it be until another Coach of Cowher's ability came along?ÂÂ
But what if, maybe, just maybe Morris is the real deal. The next great young coach? Then the Glazers would have mortgaged the future for what---5 seasons under Cowher? Maybe 6? If he doesn't win a Superbowl in that window, then both the monetary and opportunity costs becomes quite high...
