One of the more interesting points was that if all humans vanished, the very final surviving man-made objects would be the Pyramids. Almost everything in North America or Europe would last less than a couple hundred years, while the Pyramids would last several thousand more (mostly because of the very arid conditions)

Another interesting part of the puzzle is the Sphinx. Most believe it was built around the same time of the Pyramids during the reign of Khufu and Khafra around 2500 B.C. But there is a lot of debate about this. Some scientists claim that it predates Khufu.

Some claim there is even evidence of water erosion which does not exist on the other surrounding structures. It would suggest the Sphinx is much, MUCH older than the pyramids. Many geologists have studied the erosion and have concluded that there does appear to be a lot of erosion that could only be caused by significant rainfall. Now the problem with this is that Egypt only gets about 1 inch of rain a year. And there is nothing in written history that suggest that was any different during the time of ancient Egypt. It has always been a very arid climate. For the Sphinx to have this type of erosion, it would have had to be built around 5,000 or 6,000 BC.

Now this is not really accepted by many in the mainstream. They sort of just shrug it off because they just consider it impossible. The pyramids themselves were a fantastic engineering feat for the Egyptians to complete. To think the Sphinx may have been built 4,000+ years earlier is just preposterous and insane in their minds.

One theory is that some ancient pre-Egyptian group carved something from an existing rock outcropping and that thousands of year later the Egyptians recarved the head. There is also a theory that Khufu and the others chose that site because the Sphinx was already there (makes sense since it was a really long walk (12 miles) from Memphis, the old kingdom capitol.)

Cyber, I'm pretty sure Robert Schoch is only geologist that has presented the rainfall/erosion theory (along with seismic studies of the area around the Sphinx) to push back the age of the Sphinx. Let me know if you find another one.

If Schoch turns out to be right, how bad does that make the other geologists and Egyptologists look that they didn't even consider that? Ego is a big reason why Schoch's work have been attacked. Schoch is an outsider. The insiders don't like when somebody like him comes up with answers that they didn't provide.
Maybe Schoch is wrong but I don't think so.

Maybe the folks at Nabta Playa are the ones who built the Sphinx?

Oh, BTW, Schoch has also written a recent book on the paranormal. Other folks will use that to discredit him. He's a rogue and doesn't give a crap what others say about him. Gotta love that.
