Can you imagine the invective that Bush had been drafted here with the #2 overall pick and had never had a 600 yard rushing season in his career?  Sure, a lot of that has to do with injuries.  (Although this was the first season he averaged over 4.0 ypc rushing.  Granted, he had 70 carries the entire season, but he did have a decent average.)  But hell.  Are we going to say that Carnell wasn't a bust for the team because of his health issues?

The bottom line, imo, is that Bush is a useful player to have on a team.  But *as a #2 overall pick*, he still looks like a bust.  You draft a back in the top 5, you're looking for a heck of a lot more than someone who's merely a useful player for your team.

He hasn't lived up to expectations (he definitely was NOT good his rookie season btw) but he played sensationally today.  That 40+ yard TD run was just incredible.

Reggie Bush is not a bust by any stretch of the imagination. I never thought the saints were the right fit for his skill set, but he found his own way to be a game changing back in this league. The guy flat out has a nose for the end zone. The article that had him as one of the top 10 bust of the decade was ridiculous, there were a lot of guys who should have been on that list that were left off.  Bush is still in the league scoring touchdowns and helping his team win games. Did he live up to all of the hype given to him prior to entering the league, no, but he is still a productive RB and as long as he can stay healthy he'll be around for a long time.

Failing to live up to your billing = busting.

If Bush's eventual NFL productivity had been known before the draft, he would've been selected in round 2.  Maybe 3.

That's a far fall from "the next Gale Sayers."
