since when do gms have the ability to put into effect a no trade clause.. isnt that usually on the PLAYERS end?

sounds pretty fishy to me

That is why I am waiting to see how things shake out when the dust settles.

Too much contradictory information is floating around.  Once the dust settles things will be clearer I hope.  ???

Just posting you post again because that how I feel.

It's really hard to differentiate which rumors are facts and which one are assumptions right now. But I do believe that Bruce would not make that deal for Plummer unless he has leverage against him.

Not really. Looks like the Bucs have a lot of options just like Dan said. He simply can be cut and the team is not out anything. Thanks for the info Dan. Sure wish there's no clause about trades, though. Plummer could be the key to a variety of options for Bruce as far as moving him.

Right now, we don't know if there actually is some provision limiting the Bucs ability to trade Plummer elsewhere.

I am sure there is a provision limiting the Bucs from trading Jake but there are ways around it...

Just about every transaction in the NFL has loopholes.

If that is the case then it looks like Jake has the Bucs by the balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He will be laughing his a** off. I cant believe that Allen would have it that way. (this is replying to the original thread)

Actually its the Bucs that hold the cards. If he retires before playing out the balance of his remaining deal the Bucs will hold his rights forever. If he wants to play in Houston (which is the likely scnario) they will have to trade for his rights. I actually think this deal works out for the Bucs in the end. Either he is on our roster next year or we trade him to Houston before training camp. I think retirement is the least likely outcome, afterall he is only 32 and will probably be broke in 5 years if he doesnt keep playing.

The only way it doesnt work out for the Bucs is if he decides to play for Tampa and reports for camp. If that is the case, the Bucs lose the 4th rounder and has to pick up the 5.3 million dollar tab.

I'm not even sure what the conditions are for the draft pick.

And if he's serious we trade Simms at the start of camp...

Not a loss

The other question is would Houston trade Carr for Plummer straight up? I dont know if they are that willing to take Plummer if Kubiak can't even work out a deal with Shanahan who is his friend.

Per NFLN, just heard it, the trade for Plummer contains language that says he plays for Tampa or no one. They didn't give more details.

A team can't trade a player to another team and then tell them what to do with that player.

Denver is guaranteed a draft pick. If Pummer plays for us, it might be a fifth round pick. If he doesn't play, it might be a seventh for example, but Denver will get one of our picks no matter what. The Bucs own the rights to him and can do whatever they want with him. He is bought and paid for. If another team wants him, they have to negotiate with Tampa for the duration of the contract. Plummer would not have been my choice, but I don't believe he is really ready to quit the game just yet. He's just disgusted with Shanahan. Slim pickin's for decent FA veteran QBs right now. If any team loses a starter between now and September, they will be calling Bruce to work another trade. There's no telling what player or pick we might get for the rights to Plummer.
