Hands down: the late Paul Newman.  Sean Penn impressed me in Mystic River as well, very intense movie.

Antony Hopkins has been my favorite.  I like Tom Hanks, too. Some would say Ben Kingsley, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro.

I can't think of a bad Tom Hanks movie off the top of my head.

I don't think any actor could have played Forest Gump the way Hanks did. My personal favorite movie of all-time.
