The problem is that Deese wasn't even a solid player so that's what the comparison was. The sales pitch doesn't mean anything but the outcome does. If we sign Carter and he falls off the table that's what worries me because toerhwise you totally want a guy like Kevin Cater on your team.
But when Deese and co. rolled in they were hailed as "Gruden's guys" who were going to finally implement the offesne the way he sees it. Carter would be no different than when Hovan was signed. Just a guy who isn't the hot commodity he once was (Carter due to age, Hovan due to actual production) who should be able to play fairly well in this system. Likewise Ike Hilliard was never brought in to be the savior; we thought he could fill a specific role, he did, and everyone is happy. If he doesn't work out Rice and Spires are still here and if Allen and Gruden know anything they'll draft a DE within the first three picks.

FRG is the most logical poster on this board.  You guys just don\'t like where the logical conclusions take you.

A key difference between the Deese era moves and this year is that we didn't have the cap-room leeway to make any mistakes, and basically all those moves were bust.

Obviously we still don't want to overpay for older guys, but the impact of any mistakes will be relatively minor in cap terms.
