If he was a top 5 LT, teams would have used their 1st and 3rd on him

you'd think...or at least attempted to work out a deal.

I would think that, if no teams are willing to give up a 1st and a 3rd for a top 5 OT (or any other player, for that matter), then the RFA compensations are set ridiculously high...  which they are...

did the other top 4 OL give up 8 sacks last year?  that number seems high for a top 5 OL...

and it is kind of odd that no other team in the league would give up a 1st and 3rd for a young top 5 LT...

Lots of excuses for Penn about the QB's being at fault but Joe Thomas didn't have any issues with his stable of scrubs. D'Brick seemed to do ok with his rookie QB.

Penn had a top 10 ranking in causing penalties, allowing QB hits and pressures.

How that is a "top 5" or even top 20 linemen I have no flippin' idea.

All posts are opinions in case you are too stupid to figure that out on your own without me saying it over and over.

Penn is a stud.   If the Bucs don't pay him, Freeman will suffer.

Agreed, if they don't pay Penn I will boycott everything Bucs, merchandise wise.

He gave up 8 in 2008. He only gave up 5 in 2009. However he gave up a ton more pressures in 2009.

It only took a 1st to get Jared Gaither and he's a younger and better player than Penn.
Also had work ethic issues.
People underestimate the value of draft picks last season.

See what Roy Williams went for and see what Marshall/Boldin went for.

Penn isn't a Top 5 OT. Top 10-12? Yeah.

I think that's a screen shot from Sapp's top 5 list after the 2008 season.

Where did this obsession with Penn come from? I like him as a slightly average LT, if he signs, great whatever. But not for the money he's asking, there is no chance in hell he's a top 5 LT in this league. Not even top 10.

the Penn situation has now become a matter of the Glazers coughing up $$$ instead of how good a player is and if they deserve the $$$. Pay the guy who bombed his contract year down the stretch. Who cares if he does it again or slacks off because the $$$ is in the bank? For a guy that had a shot to EARN a contract last year, there are sure a lot of people willing the give him one even though he didnt earn it. Its always easy to spend other peoples $$$.

so who shutout the elite pass rushers that were mentioned?  Penn or Trueblood?  Had to be one of them...how is our line so average if the "elite" get shutout?

In the last 3 starts vs. the Buccaneers, Peppers has 4.5 sacks - which isn't shutting him out.  Most of those, if not all, were probably on Trueblood.
