Just for grins, I looked at the Jets and Lions from last year and neither Sanchez or Stafford started and both played a couple of series.

Yeah I'd suspect you run a couple of series with your young players. You're not gonna leave 'em in for a half or anything in game #1 because there's too much roster chaff you've got to clear out. I

I was rewatching the last Atlanta game the other night and we called that on 3rd and 16 two different times.

Its the very first preseason gamenobody plays their starters more than a series or 2. Now the 2nd game they will probably get a quarter and the 3rd game probably a half.  And For cryin out loud people stop micro managing and over analyzing every single thing that Morris says and does.

If it's 3rd and 16 and the easy 8 or 9 yards on the draw play puts you in field goal range, I can understand. But when you are on your own 35 yard line and do it, to me it just shows that you don't have a lot of confidence in your own offense.

I'm not saying its right. I'm saying its kind of standard operating procedure around the league. Lots of coaches like to play it safe. And if you have confidence in your D, you say, we'll stop them and get the ball back. Personally id throw a short pass and hope for a broken tackle but people criticize that too. getting a guy open 15+ yards down the field when the defense is looking for it isnt very easy. And forcing it while having a D-line with their ears pinned back, looking to get a sack, tipped ball or too force a bad throw doesnt help either.

Um, why would the head coach "hope" his starters are able to play one series ... pretty sure no matter how good/bad the team plays we will have at least 1 series on offense and 1 on defense, or is he concerned that the starters wont want to play at all and because he is their best friend he doesnt want to have to try and force them out onto the field ?

That's what I'm wondering J. I would hope that Morris was quoted correctly so why would he say that? You would think after one season under the bright lights and questions as head coach he would be more media savvy. Every time he has a press conference I am left shaking my head in amazement at some of the answers.

I'd guess this more along the lines of "I hope they have one decent series and don't just go three and out so I have to dump 'em back out there."

I'd like to see the players get more reps than a single, even good drive, but I'm guessing the goal is 6 plays or so and it might take more than 1 drive to do that.

what a joke. Playing starters for 1 series is for teams that are 13-3, not 3-13.
This is a young team, that needs time to gel. I'd rather they work on doing that now and not try to work the kinks out during the regular season. Freeman is still a rookie having only started half the games last season.

What if they go 3 and out?

These young kids need to get some time under fire. Keep Freeman and the rookie receivers out there a few series.
