The Buccaneers have announced that Bucs QB Josh Freeman has broken the tip of his right thumb (throwing hand) and will miss the rest of the preseason. The team expects him to return to practice the week of the first game and play in the 2010 preseason opener against Cleveland on September 12. It is a tip broken, so it can heal quickly if done properly, by resting it immediately.

Great....and it's his throwing hand.  This sucks.  How can you break your thumb on your throwing hand and be back in 2 weeks?

If it was regular season he probably wouldn't even miss a game.

No doubt that's a quick recovery, but I don't think it's a coincidence that he's going to get better the week before the season opener.  If the season started a week sooner, I bet the official diagnosis would be that he had an "injured" thumb, and would still be available for the opener.
