Allen was in Louisiana last week at Russel's pro day.

Leads me to believe he talked to the Saints while there to see what might be done.

Can't see the Bucs giving up 2 #1's or even close. Maybe a pair of 3's.

Sounds more like a fair deal. Two 1's is just idiotic, this guy isn't J. Peppers.

Not saying I'm in favor of it but throwing it out there anyways:  Bucs trade #4 for Grant and #27.  This will allow us to take the best Safety left on the board or Kalil if still available and fill two holes instead of one.  And we would still have 2 2nd rounders.  Not that bad of a scenario if you think about it logically.

Put Madden away.

I would say the ones playing Madden are the ones that think drafting Calvin Johnson is going to make us a SB contender.  The talent we can bring in the better this team will be.

That is too much value to surrender.  If you ask me an oppurtunity to draft CJ,JT, or DL is better than a center (Kalil) or a safety.

you would also be getting a DE as good as any in this draft.  If the FO feels like JT or CJ won't be there at #4 and don't want to draft a QB then I could see this.  Oyoke is not #4 material.

Yeah but you can still add Grant and draft Anderson at #4 overall.

How would we still get Grant?  We would need to trade something of value and I don't think 2B or a 3rd is going to do it.

Can someone please tell me how in their right fuc*ing mind think Grant is worth anything close to one 1st round pick let alone two. Especially to a division rival. You guys are talking sports out of your...ignorance

A day one pick and a 2008 conditional pick is more than enough compensation.

I mean it takes more than 2 first rounders to go from the bottom of the first round into the top five and the 2 first rounders is the starting asking price for a franchise player.

If he was J. Peppers, Lance Briggs, Troy Palomolu or Ed Reed, but he's not. Never ever will be in the "Elite" catogory. So it's stupid to even say Charles Grant and 1st round in the same sentence. Maybe 1st day and '08 conditional, but never a 1st round let alone two. Never to a division rival. Stop the speculation there will never be such a horrible trade orchestrated by Bruce Allen. Charles Grant is worth an '07  2b and an '08 3a at best. Final offer.

1. Trade #4 pick to Jets for Vilma and their 1st (#25)
2. Trade down with Bears or Colts and get what you can... maybe even #25 and 2nd round pick for Bears #1 and Briggs (doubt they'd do that... try same with freeny and ship out rice?)
3. Sign Grant

Gives us Vilma, Briggs/Freeny/pick, and Grant. Also makes us younger.

Could also be fun to keep trading down a few spots and accumulate picks in 2nd and 3rd round.

Basically, this Grant only makes sense to me if Bucs are considering trading down.

Cap impact not analyzed in this scenario. Please have patience with my newbie thoughts.

You're right. Every team in the league is interested in giving away their best players so the Bucs can get back to the Super Bowl. If the Bucs do anything short of acquiring Grant, Freeny, Briggs and Vilma wothout giving up anything of value then the FO needs to be fired. [banghead]

if Charles Grant was 22 and in this year's draft he would go first round, probably top 15, so why is he not worth a 1st.  He's only 28.  He's a better player than John Abraham.  I wouldn't trade our top 5 pick straight up for him but swapping picks for him isn't so crazy especially if the two guys we really want aren't projected to be available at #4 and we have determined no defensive player in this draft is top 5 material.
