Speaking strictly financially, do we pay 3.5+(whatever new guy costs) to get rid of Clayton? It's almost like paying two guys for the 4th or 5th receiver spot and one of them you don't get services from because you're cutting him. All you salary cap guru's should be clamoring loudly I'd suspect?

Rookies don't cost that much. We have a 4th rounder (MW), a second rounder (AB), a seventh rounder (SS), a 3rd (MS), a traded 6th (RB) and street FA's

I'm almost willing to bet if you take all of the salaries of Williams, Benn, Stroughter, Spurlock, Stovall and Brown or Parker they cost less than keeping stone hands.

Why? The base is guaranteed. I think he''ll be gone and Brown may get the boot, too.

Brown led receivers in yardage and yet he dropped another ball in the red zone.

Clayton gets cut for no other reason than that his salary doesn't warrant his production. If the Bucs want Clayton they can resign him to a vet minimum contract and IMO if they do that they need to do it after week one so his salary isn't guaranteed.

Whether Clayton may or may not be better than Stovall or Brown isn't the issue. You can't pay that kind of cash to a guy who talent wise isn't in the top half of your roster in ability.

I'm under the impression that his salary has already been paid, so a release now doesn't effect next years cap situation. Can anyone confirm/deny?

Well, you gotta give the young guys something to shoot for. I'm sure they would all love to have Clayton's sweet deal just to take up space some day. Clayton is the proverbial "carrot".
