Hopefully we will make a nice big splash in the free agency market this year for a change, and workout a deal to get Charles Grant signed instead of beating around the bush & coming up short like we usually do when it comes to BIG trades or signings.

Unless the Saints are willing to give him for the 3rd rounder/2b and a conditional 08, then no deal.

It would seem like we would like to give up a lot to get Charles Grant.

Giving up alot IMO would be the 2 #1's.  If Grant becomes a Buc it will not be for the franchise compensation.  They two teams would have had to work out a different trade.  If the Saints stand firm on the franchise compensation, Grant is a Saint in 2007 and the Bucs and Grant have a nice feel for each other come next off season.

I just doesn't seem like Grant is worth that much.  He isn't really a top ten DE in the NFL.

Remember we can't get FA's for nothing at all.  For the better young FA that Grant is, the teams sometimes have to fork over some cash.  Not advocating overspending for Grant, but you can't just go with the "I wouldn't mind him but only at such and such a price."  The younger and talented the FA, the more your probably going to dish out.

I don't like it... If Willis McGahee was traded for a 3rd, a 7th and next year's 3rd... I wouldn't give up anything more than a 4th and a 5-7 next year for a 2nd tier DE

Willis McGahee wasn't franchised. The Saints will not be giving up Grant for 3rd round picks.

If it happens, I'd imagine it will be for the Indy's #2 or Tampa Bay's #3 and a conditional pick next season. That said, if you asked me "would you trade Booger and a conditional 2008 for Charles Grant?" I'd certainly have to say that I would.
