It's an ESPN Insider article. Anybody have access?

Granted, it's LP.  But I'd still like to read it.

this would suck

we would be giving up a better player for a worse player, and would be losing draft picks

I'm no Insider, but I can speculate:

The article was written when the Bucs were expected to sign Grant to an offer sheet.  At the same position, Rice's cap hit would force him out.  As we know, that didn't happen.

Yea I got what he was implying. I just haven't heard anything about Rice and now I'm searching all over to find some insight. So if anyone knows and doesn't feel like being a dic* than help a fellow Buc fan out with some info. Thanks.

Don't know wats in this article but I'm not a fan of Pasquarelli's work either. He passes others work for his own too much.

On Rice: I would think the writing on the wall has been there. So many past drafts with trade rumors involving him. The Bucs are going to start drafting younger D-linemen anways. Also if the bucs have good cap space next year a lot of DE are going to be rabid to get out on the market.

I think its in his best interests for Rice to look for a team that will give him one last good payday before riding into the sun. So I see him playing like its a "contract year" in 2007.

No need for quotes there.  2007 IS a contract year for Rice.

With the current value at the DE position in the NFL Rice is a bargain and the Bucs would be foolish to give him up for anything less than a king's ransom. He'll play well enough to spueeze one more big deal out of his career with another team in '08.

Gruden and the Bucs said they want to IMPROVE the pass rush. Getting rid of Rice would be counter-productive to that goal.

Again if NO wanted Rice plus one of our two 2nd rounders this year for Grant , I would say hell yeah to that in a heartbeat since Rice's best days are behind him it seems like.
