Directed to everyone who thinks that Cato June slipped a little last year, because he didn't goto the probowl, well he deffinentaly had to numbers to go. Over 140 total tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a sack.

I am very welcoming to those stats, compared to whatever Nece will do next year.

Sportsline's Pete Prisco's comments on the June acquisition...

Newest Buc seems an ideal fit

Cato June would seem to be a perfect pickup for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has had success playing in a similar scheme to what the Bucs use in Indianapolis with the Colts.

June's a good player, not a great one, but he is a smallish linebacker who has to play in that Cover-2 scheme to an effective player. The Colts wanted him back, but they felt they could make due without him if he left. For the right price, he was worth keeping. But the Colts have showed in the past, they are willing to let linebackers walk when the price got too steep.

June is a weak-side linebacker, but in Tampa that's the spot owned by future Hall of Fame player Derrick Brooks. With middle linebacker Shelton Quarles possibly being forced to retire for hip issues, could that mean Tampa Bay is considering playing June in the middle or even moving Brooks in there?

Both players are at their best when they have room to run, and they might not be physical enough to play in the middle. If one has to go, my guess would be that it would be Brooks. He is the tougher of the two players.

The funny thing here is that June is a converted safety, while Brooks balked at teams trying to move him to safety when he came into the league. That's how the NFL has changed.

Small, fast linebackers are now in vogue where they once were not.
