Exactly. This is a lateral move. Must have promised him a boat load of money.

This is actually a demotion, at least in title. In Tampa he was ST coach and Associate HC. In SD he is just the ST coach. I think the associate HC thing though was just a hollow title to prevent him from being signed away while still under contract.

Which response do we get this time? Butthurt? Needs medical treatment? Or the all time favorite, \"Drama Queen\"

Very intriguing comments on the way out the door. Did he go to the Michael Clayton seminar on what not to say? Why burn a bridge on the way out of town? Maybe Rich is secretly hoping Norv tanks it again next year and -- with Rivera out of the way -- he moves into the head coach role? But, be careful who you get in bed with because if the Chargers underachieve again next year or don't go far in the playoffs, Norv is likely booted and maybe the whole coaching staff with him. Whatever the reason, guess only he knows it.

We all know he was itching for a HC job college or Pro. My guess would be he knows he has no chance to advance here for a while and something might come out of the SD gig.

You know what this means, Stovall to San Diego! Lol

Seriously, he's going to want a coach on th field. Plus with rivers on the field stovall might actually have some offensive value for them.

FWIW - Everyone knew this was coming...   unless you've been in a coma.   ....   'sayin.

Yeah, we knew it was coming but I don't think anybody expected a lateral move. Or, for him to praise Turner, Gruden but not Morris.

So maybe there was an uneasy feeling among some of the coaches, but the reason for it was different than speculated in the PR articles.

It had to bruise his ego that he was passed over for OC or HC for younger people with less experience. Also, since the Bucs' STs ranked among the best in the league, there's not a lot of room for improvement. Since the Chargers' STs were at the very bottom of the league, it's almost guaranteed they will be better. Rich will get the credit for the turnaround and will automatically be a candidate to replace Turner if the Chargers don't reach the owner's expectations. The worse thing that could happen, he would be along for the ride to another SB. In Tampa he has no chance for a promotion of any kind. It's too bad personal ambition became a factor. Tampa Bay is the better franchise from top to bottom, and has a brighter future for a longer period of time. He could have had job security here for possibly another decade. His tenure in San Diego could be very short. I appreciate everything he has done for the Bucs, and hope others will be able to take up the slack. He will be missed.

On a side note, it doesn't say much for his character that he disrespected the organization by complimenting the previous regime, and ignoring the accomplishments of this team.

Probably a one-year gig as he gets ready for his idol Gruden to come back in 2012.

Well, Gruden DID stand by him all those early years when the Bucs' special teams sucked and everyone was asking for his head. There's something to be said for loyalty.
