Josh Johnson-QB-Buccaneers Jan. 18 - 8:02 pm et

Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area calls Josh Johnson a "logical target" if the 49ers trade for a quarterback this offseason.

Johnson has been rumored to be on the trade block before, and new 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh coached up the dual threat passer at the University of San Diego. A fifth-round pick in the 2008 draft, Johnson is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Not including any potential compensatory picks, the 49ers have 10 selections to work with in the 2011 draft.

Are we surprised? I'm not.
Now if we trade him for a good price is what we should do.

Johnson for the 49ers 4th rounder (they have 2, SD's as well) and swap picks in the 2nd for JJ. That's the trade there.

I was thnking something along those lines.

Either :
JJ and Our second for a 4th and their second.
Maybe if Dom pulls a big one:
JJ and a third (if we get a compensatory) and our first for their first.

I don't want us to trade JJ at all, but if we do....I hope we can swap 2nd round picks and get one of their 4th rounders. According to the draft point chart, that would be 218 points or equal to the 11th pick of the 3rd round.

There are a bunch of studs that will go at the beginning of the 2nd round that we could grab if we swapped 2nd round picks, that we won't be able to get if we stay at 20. Then a second 4th round pick would be really nice too. I have faith that Dom can strike gold in the 4th.

Jdouble what are the points for our 1st and our third?

Dream scenario: Our 1st, 3rd and JJ for their 1st and their 4b.

Thoughts?

We better make sure we get a damn good backup if we do trade him.  Not that JJ is that great, but do we really want to put all our eggs in Rudy Carpenter's basket should Freesus go down?

I'd do it.

I'd love to keep JJ but that's not realistic. He wants a chance to start and that's not happening here.

Carpenter will have to do. Lots of teams with top notch QBs are screwed if their No. 1 guy goes down.

So that means we should take the risk too??

Not going to have a choice. Unless we sign an experienced guy to be Number 2.

It would suck to lose JJ, but seeing as his contract is up after 2011 and we'll most likely lose him anyways....I suppose it would be better to get something for him.

I'd love to have JJ be our back up forever, but he's got too much talent to not get a shot at starting somewhere.

I think you're overvaluing JJ there.  If we can get a 4th for him, without the swapping 2nd round picks (which, based on the current positions is equal to a late third round pick), then I jump at it.

920 points + JJ (is he worth 670 points/28th pick?)

for

their 1st pick (1500) and 4th (88) = 1588 points.

Yeah, Dream scenario. lol
