This ancient collection of 70 tiny books, their lead pages bound with wire, could unlock some of the secrets of the earliest days of Christianity.

I'll say this as a not-defender of the faith but people act like these were excluded to some nefarious purpose. What political reason were they excluded? There wasn't really dogma built up that required their exclusion. The problem with most of the non-canonical works is that frankly, they don't fit with anything else or even each other.  I mean the Gnostic Gospels have Thomas and Lord that aren't even gnostic in any way and the rest are lumped into gnostic because most people have no idea what that term means - with good reason.
