 Bucs host freakish Nevada LB Dontay Moch for pre-draft visit


We learned on Monday the Bucs are taking a serious interest in Central Arkansas defensive end Markell Carter despite his projection toward 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL.

But Carter isn't the only such player the Bucs are considering in next week's draft.

The team today also hosted Nevada linebacker Dontay Moch, one of the draft's best athletes and the 2009 WAC Player of the Year. Moch, at 6-2 and 247 pounds is too slight to play defensive end in the NFL, but is one of the better pass rushers in the draft. He registered 8.5 sacks as a senior and had 27.5 sacks in his extremely productive college career.

Just as eye-catching is another of Moch's numbers: His 4.4-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine in February. That is among the fastest times you'll see for a defensive line prospect, and it's consistent with Moch's superior athletic ability.

The Bucs continue to show serious interest in hybrid players and coach and defensive coordinator Raheem Morris shows no intention of backing off from the myriad defensive fronts he began utilizing last season. In his effort to invigorate the team's lackluster pass rush, Morris is showing a willingness to continue using creative and unconventional packages that take advantage of individual players' strengths.

That was something we saw last season with players such as Dekoda Watson and Quincy Black. Morris might just be getting started when it comes to exploring new things.

the youtube's on Markel look exciting.  I for one hope the Bucs can find a way to generate a passrush without trading up to get it; looks like they're hoping also find a way to not give up picks!  Hopefuly, the Bucs draft best player available or trade down for more picks.  Seems to me the Bucs have figured out talent evaluations and the draft; they should be looking to trade down unless somebody they absolutely love(no question  marks) falls to them in the first . . . trade down!

Uhhh...you base this on what?

You have gone on record as saying Kerrigan has production to back up his career, and he has done this based mostly on hustle, and not technique, but you can slam Moch because he gets production but is...uhh...wait a minute...

Not sure what you are saying here.

Moch is a pass rushing linebacker.  And no he is not Quincy Black.  Black played safety (the LOBO) in college.  Same as Urlacher.  But Black is not capable of being an effective pass rusher.  Aside from what nasty slam on a QB lastyear, Q-Black has not shown much in terms of getting at a QB.

Moch has a collegiate career based on production.  Kerrigan has the same.

Not sure why Kerrigan gets the nod, while MOch, who plays a differing position but gets results, does not.

Kerrigan hustles.  Moch is an athlete.

So what is the problem here?

I am glad the Bucs have brought in yet another LB.  It goes to prove that LB is a serious need for the Bucs...almost as dire as the need for a DE.

If you watched Moch in college, all he did was abuse teams with shear athletic ability. His technique or I should say lack there of, makes him a Quincy Black clone.

Wow these are some dumb posts...Have you guys checked out Kiper or Mayock's take on Moch?  Have you seen him play?  The guy is a heck of a football player...with terrific numbers to back it up...and no...he is nothing like Quincy Black...

When I watch Moch I see a guy with ridiculous quickness, speed, and overall athletism. I also see a guy with no instincts. He did well in college by beating college kids with his physical abilities but everyone in the NFL is a great athlete. If you don't have the mental part down you wont translate well at the next level. I think this is the case with Moch.

Comparing Moch to Kerrigan is just silly. Kerrigan uses his natural instincts and endless motor to out work and out think his opponent. Exact opposite of Moch.
