Foster is too big. I can't relate to him. He's not rootable.

6 foot 1 and 245?   He's not big at all.    Now if he was 6 foot 6 and 245, he'd be a freak of nature.   But he's pretty normal.

He'll be fine against the run.   But get ready for the nickname Mason "toast" Foster in pass coverage.

Get ready for the nickname Mason "toast" Foster in pass coverage.

You underrate Foster in pass coverage and he isn't as bad as you make him out to be.

Pass Coverage: Brings good value in this area. Shows more than adequate range in underneath zone coverage. Displays good awareness for crosser in his zone. Does a nice job of reading quarterbacks' eyes and getting into passing lanes. Athletic enough to match up with most TEs and RB's in man-to-man coverage.

Why are they taking him out on 3rd down then?   They didn't take Ruud out on 3rd down...

Ruud also didn't see the field as a starter for his first two years. They obviously felt enough of Foster to where they thought they could get rid of Ruud and it not impact the team very much.. Its obvious they don't want to give the rookie to big of a role. It will not be long before Foster is an everydown linebacker. Once again Ruud didn't even start for his first two years.

Ruud didn't start because the Bucs had Shelton Quarles.    Foster wouldn't start if Ruud was still on the team.

The team let Ruud go because they obviously thought they were just as good off if not better with Foster starting. You act like Ruud was one of the most sought after free agents this year but the fact was he wasn't. He signed a 1 year deal for pennies with the Titans. Foster is going to be fine and he will be an everydown linebacker. The team is working him in nicely. Black at this point in his career knows the defense better and did play safety in college. His pass coverage is probably better then Fosters but that doesn't mean Foster isn't capable of being a 3rd down linebacker.

The ONLY thing that extended Quarles career that long with the Bucs was the fact that Ruud wasn't ready and the only thing that finally pushed Ruud into the starting lineup was the fact that Quarles couldn't pass a physical to make the team in 2007.

The fact that they let a rookie take over for Ruud should tell you everything there is to know about Ruud. Good guy but he isnt the guy we want as our starting MLB.
