Blissfully unaware? Me? There is a difference between selecting plants based on their genetics(traits). Gregor Mendel pioneered genetics by doing the pea experiments. He used breeding experiments to "lock down" certain traits in his experiments. THAT is not genetic engineering, it's natural selection. Those are two different things. You obviously have no idea what I'm talking about at all. Just go look up genetic engineering in the dictionary. Get a clue, dude.

Organic food is NOT EVER genetically modified.

Wow, ok so genetic engineeering and cross hybridization are ok as long as a dude in a lab coat doesn't do it.

Oddly of course when you are talking about polyploids you talking about crossing species and things like wheat, apples, bananas, ginger and so on are all polyploidal in that way. Egads! run for the hills Martha! Seriouly does something like Tritcale which is a GMO but the GM was done in the late 19th century so it wasn't all labbed up...still ok?

All posts are opinions in case you are too stupid to figure that out on your own without me saying it over and over.

So are you saying that anything genetically modified is not an organism? Or are you saying that anything genetically modified has no long carbon stands??

Benzene is an organic molecule, does that make it safe to eat??

What about unadulterated naturally grown oleander??

If you guys would like to educate yourselves and come back and have an intelligent conversation, that would be great. Otherwise......where the heck is that ignore button again? LOL. Ridiculous.

 What is organic?
Organic is a labeling term that indicates that the food or other agricultural product has been produced through approved methods that integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used. Learn more.

... people!

Surely I'm not the only one who thought that when he read the subject line.  (I'm not going to touch the actual contents of the thread.  The people who are revelling in their ignorance will continue to do so regardless of what I say.  Those who aren't don't need me to explain anything to them.)

I refuse to accept that definition of "organic". Tired of the govt. making up new words and redefining old ones. I find the USDA's use of "organic" intentionally misleading and confusing, so I refuse to play their game.

As far as I can see the long term health effects of genetically modified foods is not clear. We are after-all talking about the food we eat.

Also, the ownership of GM seeds in the hands of a transnational corporate monopoly is potentially  very risky for the farmer and the consumer.  Then you look at some of the names of these companies it gets even scarier. Where that could lead concerns me as much as anything on this subject.

wow, not only did he not make any points valid to the topic, he came in here just to attack you. I thought it was funny he called you an atheist as well. I guess he hasnt read very many of your posts?

that said, I wish GMOs did cause sterility. The worlds population is expanding at too high of a rate for the planet to continue to support in the long run and it seems mostly stupid people are breeding. lol.

In response to the new studies that have come out recently, I thought I would add more information here about this issue. The two major problems that are exploding in the health care industry are IBS(Irritable bowel syndrome) and gastrointestinal problems. I used to eat out a lot in the USA and I was surely exposed to multiple various GMO corn which created these exact two issues. I had SYMPTOMS of IBS and major gastro/digestive problems. As soon as I cut all GMO products out of my diet these issues disappeared. If I had gone to a physician he would have likely put me on toxic medication, which on top of the toxins brewing inside of my body could have only made matters worse.

This information is put here to help my fellow human beings. I have no agenda, other than helping. If you are having digestive/gastro/bowel issues I urge you to buy organically grown produce.

if you look at the tremendous explosion of modern diseases...notably constant heart burn wearing out the esophagus & diabetes...both are linked to diet. But many scientists say it is in the genes and is not caused by diet. Never before in history has man lived longer....and been sicker. I say it is the diet. Modern bread (wonder bread) gives you heart burn and modern sugar (sucrose/ high fruitose corn syrup) gives you diabetes. Both contribute to obesity.

These people who are financing the altering of basic life structures are luciferian. They believe in evolution and do not believe God created these oranisms. They are changing the created life form at levels they do not fully understand. Some long term effects are being realised now some will be realized in the future. I have completey changed my diet and twarted several diseses...diabetes, arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure, and chronic heart burn. I still have some heart burn but not nearly as bad as it was....I eat 100% stone ground wheat bread - which must be frozen or it will spoil in 3 days because of the lack of preservatives and its high nutritional value. It gives me zero burning. Unfortunately its not convenient to eat it throughout the day...so I still get some burning after eating at the company cafeteria....but I have improved it 10 fold and am still working on it. Oh and i did all these cures through diet and exercise...no doctors or hospital bills.

Two fruit trees stand next to each other. The birds in the area have a strong preference for one of the trees over the other, and consequently they spread its seeds far and wide, accompanied with convenient packets of fertilizer. The preferred tree will have many more descendants that will colonize a much larger geographical area than the other tree will.

Every group of genes in existence is constantly having its genetic code modified by all of the other organisms in its ecosystem.

The problem with, and danger from, organisms that have undergone rapid genetic shifts is that they are too successful. They out-compete and push out other less successful organisms, causing a reduction in genetic diversity. As an example, where once there were hundreds of strains of rice in the world, now the majority of all rice consists of around half a dozen different types. That's all well and good until the environment in which these strains prospered undergoes a change that such a small variety can not adapt too. A larger, more diverse field of genetic strains stands a much better chance of having individual organisms that will survive to spawn future generations.

The problem with modern sweeteners is similar - they're too damned successful. Research shows that people prefer products that taste sweeter, so companies are putting sweeteners into everything because they have become so cheap. They're putting HFCS into cans of corn for God's sake! The amount of sugar in the average diet is on an ever upward spiral.

I can not forgive any a-hole who puts sugar into salsa.
