Chizik has obviously justified his hiring, but who is to say what Gill or any other coach could have done with Bobby Lowder buying up all the best players in the south for him?

Nothing.  I suppose we could sit here and speculate all day on the list of coaches who could have gone undefeated through SEC - Ron Zook, Sylvester Croom, Mike Shula, Charlie Weis, Steve Addazio, etc., but Chizik actually did it.  And all the while Turner Gill is still 3-9 at Kansas.

Seriously, all of this race-baiting from Barkley and the likes was about Turner Gill, who had a 20-30 record and Buffalo and now a 3-9 record at Kansas.  Maybe, just maybe, the color of his skin wasn't a factor.

That would make perfect sense if the guy they hired hadn't had a 5-19 record at ISU. I can understand the questioning ... I guess when Gill goes 2-10 next year he'll be ripe for the plucking by another SEC team.

That's the same ignorant argument Barkley made, because that guy they hired also was the DC for Auburn when they went undefeated and was the DC for Texas.  He was the DC for two different teams when they went undefeated.  Chizik wasn't hired for what he did or didn't do at Iowa State.  Chizik's time with Auburn and Texas is what got him the job.

I agree on the Vandy thing - but also think that anyone who turns down $3 mil a year and becoming a top 10 paid coach is an idiot.  Tough dilemma.  If I were him I'd jump on it - who knows what his O looks like once Cash Money is gone?
