The debate is fueled by the fact that the Cardinals benefited from the rule despite their mistake.

The debate is fueled by the fact that it was a crap call.  The Braves didn't lose because the umpire made an error, they made plenty of errors themselves.  But it was no doubt a crap call.  The vast majority of the baseball world agrees that it was a crap call, as do most people that haven't already dug their heels in on the issue.

You have to make sure that the infielder can get there with ordinary effort and as can be seen in the replays he could.  Umpire has to make sure before he makes that call.

This will be my last point on this bogus call:  if the umpire had to wait until the ball almost hit the ground to make sure it was the "right call", I'd argue that the "ordinary effort" threshold by the infielder was broken.

lol, love how you keep throwing "dig your heels" out there.   you can make any wrong argument you want.  rule book doesn't give a time limit for the call to be made.  it is pretty obvious the SS got out there with ordinary effort.   argue against the rule all you want, but the call was right as the rule stands.   the debate was finished a long time ago.

Thankfully we have him, because I was going to kill Valverde after Wednesday. Only good thing is the winner of the Orioles and Yankees will have their "ace" pushed back also with their game 5. Really want to the O's to not screw this up.

Bud Selig forces the Tigers to cut either Miggy or Verlander.  Who do you keep and who do you cut?

That is hard as hell but probably Miggy. Yes he is probably the best hitter in the game but we would still have Prince and V-mart coming back. Verlander is the best pitcher in baseball and gives you 6+ innings every start.

I'd keep Miggy, simply because he plays everyday.  Verlander is amazing, but he only played in 33 games compared to Miggy's 161.

It's not fair for a team to have a top 3 everyday player and a top 3 starter.  Just not fair....

I think maybe as Ray's fans though it kinda leaves us admiring offense.

While I am not one to make excuses - I would offer for consideration if the Rays were an average to good offensive team their attendance would improve significantly.  Going to a game to root in a run or two while hoping to prevent more than one run by the opposition is not attractive or appealing to those who are not ardent and well schooled of baseball fans.  And even those folks want to see offense on a fairly regular basis.

I agree.

Say this team finished right around .500 or even below possibly but with a top offense, I think the attendance would be much better than what it is now.

Was rooting for the O's to beat the Yanks, but Sab was pretty solid.   Maybe the Tigers knock off the Yanks.   Hope the Nationals win tonight.   6-1 Nats right now.
