The thing about Marty is that he's got a good track record on the asst. side.

I'm much more amenable to an older coach if he can build a staff that we can draw on should he need to call it quits early.

No to Marty.  I don't want a coach here who can't win in the playoffs.

lets right the ship first and then worry about closing the deal.  He's not a long term fix anyways.

Yes, but he consistently makes it to the playoffs everywhere he goes. That is a huge step up and wouldn't you love it if we were playing next January, instead of watching Atlanta get waxed. (Although, that was enjoyable!)

I don't want a short-term fix, I want the problem FIXED.  Bring in a young / competant offensive minded coach who's had success to be here for 10+ years.

The problem is, you can't name the young guy who will get it done for 10 years, On the other hand Schotty has proven he can put a team together that wins consistently and plays great defense.

we gambled 3 years ago and lost.  Hopefully most of these players aren't ruined for good.  But now isn't the time to gamble on an unknown.  We need a safe, proven football coach.  Not to mention the pickings seem pretty slim this year.

Schotty might be able to name that guy who will get it done in 10 years however.

Defense doesn't win in todays NFL.  If you aren't a top offense, you're an also-ran.  I may not be able to name any young coaches who "will" get it done for 10+ year, but you can't tell me that Marty can either?  I'd rather take my chances with a guy like Carmichael, Philbin, or Clarence Shelmon than an old retread who'll only be here for 3 years.
