You don't pass on a guy like Adrian Peterson just because some scrub undrafted free agents have big stats behind solid offensive lines. And you don't pass on Richardson either.
I've seen Trent run in person, I've seen youtube videos of his workouts and the kid is an absolute STUD. He has to be the pick, although I'm torn on him and Claiborne. The dude can bench more than DWIGHT HOWARD.He can pass block, he is a 3 down back, and he has a UNIQUE combination of speed AND power that is extremely hard to pass up.
Stats like this are so stupid. You can find stats to justify anything. For instance,Of the last 15 running backs to go into the Hall of Fame, 14 were drafted in the first round and the other in the 2nd. 1990 1 Emmitt Smith Cowboys Florida 2010 1989 1 Barry Sanders Lions Oklahoma State 2004 1988 2 Thurman Thomas Bills Oklahoma State 2007 1983 1 Eric **CENSORED**erson Rams Southern Methodist 1999 1982 1 Marcus Allen Raiders USC 2003 1978 1 Earl Campbell Oilers Texas 1991 1977 1 Tony Dorsett Cowboys Pittsburgh 1994 1975 1 Walter Payton Bears Jackson State 1993 1972 1 Franco Harris Steelers Penn State 1990 1971 1 John Riggins Jets Kansas 1992 1969 1 O.J. Simpson Bills USC 1985 1968 1 Larry Csonka Dolphins Syracuse 1987 1967 1 Floyd Little Broncos Syracuse 2010 1965 1 Gale Sayers Bears Kansas 1977 1964 1 Charley Taylor Redskins Arizona State 1984 Can you get lucky and find quality backs in later rounds, yes you can. The same can be said for other positions as well. But if there is a potential star running back available - you dont justify not selecting him because other teams have gotten lucky finding backs in later rounds. That is idiocy.
