Stat of the Week

Attention, all personnel men in love with Alabama running back Trent Richardson high in the first round: Following a regular season in which none of the six leading rushers in football were drafted in the first round, here were the five leading rushers over the weekend:

Player,                          Team                       Rushes                      Yards                              Rookie year, draft status                                     College

Arian Foster,            Texans                       24                            153                                    2009, undrafted                                            Tennessee

Isaac Redman,        Steelers                     17                              121                                   2009 undrafted                                               Bowie St.  [MD]

Brandon Jacobs,     Giants                        14                             92                                     2005, round 4 (110)                                        Southern Illinois

Pierre Thomas,        Saints                         8                             66                                       2007, undrafted                                               Illinois

Ahmad Bradshaw,    Giants                      14                             63                                       2007, round 7 (250)                                         Marshall

As we look ahead to the divisional round, here's an interesting note about the final eight teams left in the Super Bowl derby: Only one, Denver, starts a first-round running back ... and Willis McGahee's on his third team, in the twilight.

Not a big fan of a RB with the #5 pick, I don't care who he is.

I LOVE Trent Richardson. I think he is a special, elite talent.

Please don't draft him with the #5 pick. Thank you.

You don't pass on a guy like Adrian Peterson just because some scrub undrafted free agents have big stats behind solid offensive lines.   And you don't pass on Richardson either.

I've seen Trent run in person, I've seen youtube videos of his workouts and the kid is an absolute STUD. He has to be the pick, although I'm torn on him and Claiborne. The dude can bench more than DWIGHT HOWARD.

He can pass block, he is a 3 down back, and he has a UNIQUE combination of speed AND power that is extremely hard to pass up.

Barry Sanders couldn't run behind the Bucs O-line.

Kalil, or Nicks in FA.

LOL, Richardson and speed? Not this year buddy. He's about one off-season away from being Blount. We have a back who just had a 1,000 yard year and in two years has never had less than 4.3 YPC. Richardson is not even close to Peterson.

Stats like this are so stupid. You can find stats to justify anything.

For instance,

Of the last 15 running backs to go into the Hall of Fame, 14 were drafted in the first round and the other in the 2nd.

  1990 1  Emmitt Smith Cowboys Florida 2010
1989 1 Barry Sanders Lions Oklahoma State 2004
1988 2 Thurman Thomas Bills Oklahoma State 2007
  1983 1 Eric **CENSORED**erson Rams Southern Methodist 1999
  1982 1 Marcus Allen Raiders USC 2003
  1978 1 Earl Campbell Oilers Texas 1991
  1977 1 Tony Dorsett Cowboys Pittsburgh 1994
1975 1 Walter Payton Bears Jackson State 1993
1972 1 Franco Harris Steelers Penn State 1990
  1971 1 John Riggins Jets Kansas 1992
  1969 1 O.J. Simpson Bills USC 1985
  1968 1 Larry Csonka Dolphins Syracuse 1987
  1967 1 Floyd Little Broncos Syracuse 2010
  1965 1 Gale Sayers Bears Kansas 1977
1964 1 Charley Taylor Redskins Arizona State 1984

Can you get lucky and find quality backs in later rounds, yes you can. The same can be said for other positions as well.

But if there is a potential star running back available - you dont justify not selecting him because other teams have gotten lucky finding backs in later rounds. That is idiocy.

It's a different league now. In 1990, one QB threw for more than 4,000 yards. The #10 QB threw for 3,031 yards. In 2011, ten QB's threw for 4,000 yards. Let's not try and win the 1990 Super Bowl in 2012.

FRG is the most logical poster on this board.  You guys just don\'t like where the logical conclusions take you.

How much can Quincy Black bench?

Should the BUCs pass on a franchise running back almost in the A Peterson class?    HELL NO!!  A quarterbacks biggest asset is a franchise running back.
