The Redskins only had Marty for one year then fired him and hired Spurrier.   What a disaster.
and that was after starting out 0-5 and then winning 8 out of the next 11.  He had turned the team around in half a season.

To do that with Tony Banks at QB was amazing.

If the Bucs were seriously considering Marty, he would be the HC by now. They are not. They want someone younger. Jon Gruden will never coach in the NFL again. He loves being in front of the camera and behind the microphone too much. The money is great and his observations and opinions don't even have to be right. John Madden did the same thing, but at least he was a great coach.

The Bucs are taking too long to make a decision. The options for OC and DC, as well as the position coaches, are getting smaller by the day. The same thing happened when they took too long to fire Gruden. Raheem's coaching staff was just thrown together at the last minute.

I am would be happy with Marty or Zimmer.

I LOVE the idea that Zimmer put the Dolphins off by being "too blunt"...we need that here in Tampa, someone to tell like it is. Zimmer could put a great/very good staff togehter, and he is very well respected around the league. Bring in a freaking hard ass and get these guys ready for the season!!!

you are probably right.  can say the same about Sherman as well though.  they probably know now what a poop storm that could cause among the fans.

Supposedly he only makes a little over 4 million a year with ESPN.   If Jeff Fisher is making 7 million a year to coach, Gruden could get 10 million a year.

would you rather work 15 hours a week for 1/2 a year for $4 mil or 70 hours a week for 7/8th of the year for $7 mil?

I agree that this will saddle the new HC, like it did with Raheem, with limited staff choices.

This team played so undisciplined last season I'm starting to think only The General, Bobby Knight, could whip them back into shape.

Robert Montgomery Knight.  Now you're talkin.

There is not one owner in the league that is that stupid. Gruden is a media personality and nothing more. He doesn't even know all the rules to the game. The Bucs had one top 10 finish in seven years on offense, which supposedly is his strength. IMO acting is his greatest strength. He knows just enough to fool some people, but not enough to con some owner out of 10 million dollars a year.

The flaw in the argument is that it's "one guy".  Getting the right HC is very important, but it's just as important to have the right OC and DC.  Waiting too long to select your HC can impact your ability to bring on the best support staff.

Regardless of what you would like to think, Gruden is going to demand a higher salary than Fisher - and get it.   If he wants.

Agree. I posted elsewhere that this Friday deadline (before the East-West) was not a big deal, but what you bring up is definitely a big deal.

The Glazer boys are just as lost now as they were when the had to settle on Gruden............they can't evaluate an Avacodo......much less a HC prospect..........

Gruden is going to demand a larger mirror in his dressing room.
