The you should pay more attention to the officers list they post in the lobby.  Cruise line sue Italian officers a lot.  They might use all sorts of nationalities in the bars, restaurants,  and house keeping but on the bridge they don't.

the crew was mostly Italian, Death toll now stands at 13

Rumors exist that the Captain was "showing off" so he could wave at someone close to shore.

He is currently under house arrest for Manslaughter
