Despite some media outlets and fan sites reporting that Oregon head coach Chip Kelly had agreed to terms and accepted Tampa Bay's offer to become its next head coach, PewterReport.com can confirm that Kelly will remain at Oregon. He is no longer a candidate for the Bucs' head-coaching vacancy and Tampa Bay is no longer interested in Kelly.

In the end, Kelly's heart was still with the Ducks program, and whether he decided to walk away just before or even after agreeing to leave Oregon and join the Buccaneers is unknown at this time. Kelly may have had a change of heart, or perhaps the Bucs sensed that Kelly was having difficulty fully committing to making the leap to the NFL and didn't want to make a mistake by hiring someone who's heart was not fully committed to the Buccaneers.

Despite the recent success of Jim Harbaugh, who took the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC Championship Game in his rookie season in the NFL after coaching at Stanford, there is a long list of successful, big-name college coaches that have not found success in the NFL, including the likes of Bobby Petrino, Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Dennis Erickson and Mike Reilly, among others. The jury is still out on Pete Carroll, who left USC two years ago to become Seattle's head coach.

Tampa Bay, led by general manager Mark Dominik and the Glazers, will continue searching for Raheem Morris' replacement. Morris was fired January 2 after finishing 4-12 during a disappointing 2011 season that saw the team lose its final 10 games.

PewterReport.com will have more on the search for Tampa Bay's next head coach and the team's activity in scouting players in Mobile, Ala. at the Senior Bowl.

University of Oregon football coach Chip Kelly told a highly placed UO source late Sunday night that he has reversed course and decided to turn down an offer from the NFLs Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The source told The Register-Guard earlier Sunday night that Kelly had reached an agreement to become Tampa Bays head coach. Its done, the source said.

An hour later, Kelly changed his mind, telling the source: Im staying.

Kelly told one assistant coach Sunday night that he had been offered the Tampa Bay job, but Kelly told him he wasnt certain what he would do.

Bucs would have been leverage if true.

If this is true, the Bucs have massive egg on their face. If he really changed his mind, I'd like my sports teams to just stay away from college guys forever. Billy Donovan did the same thing to the Magic, some guys like to flirt with the idea of going to the pros but have second thoughts when they have to face their school.

Possible he didn't catch the full quote? Maybe he said, "I'm staying... at a Holiday Inn tonight"?

No they don't. They didn't announce anything. There has been NOTHING confirmed by the Bucs regarding Kelly. If he committed to the Bucs then changed his mind, then the egg is on his face, not theirs. The Bucs were turned down by Spurrier, Johnson, Parcells, etc, and it still worked out fine.

I don't know Kelly, but if he did say yes and then said no, then that's not indicative of a man being of his word.

Ummmmmmm... I'm just going to leave now and find out the results in the morning. If he indeed changed his mind we better call up Zimmer.
