REPORT: DAVIS HIRED AS BUCS SENIOR DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT

According to a report by FoxSports.com's Alex Marvez, the Bucs hired Butch Davis to join Greg Schiano's staff in Tampa Bay. Davis, who will serve as the team's senior defensive assistant, hired Schiano to coach the Hurricanes defense from 1999-2000 when he was Miami's head coach.

Explain the logic behind hiring these "senior assistants" - what other team uses these coaches - what are their roles and where do their stand in the heirarchy? Why would an OC or DC want to come to TB when they have two levels of supervision (Schiano, Davist, Raye)?

Why? As long as Davis calls the plays, and they both review game-plans I think that's fine. However, I hate the idea of Raye running the offense.

I actually agree with ADW here....I don't want Schiano being stretched too thin.

     Schiano is assembling a staff the "Buccaneer way"... Perhaps there won't be "Coordinators", but "Senior assistants" instead... I leave all that for Schiano to sort out; gonna see what the team looks like on the field before I get too excited!

I know he wants his hand in all facets (Off, Deff, ST) but that is too much.
