I like this kid but I actually like Smith the safety from ND a little more.

Iloka can come in immediately and make our defense that much better...i think the only safety i would pick before him would be Barron from Alabama

I read somewhere he played some man coverage at Boise St. and with his height he might be a nice matchup weapon against the wave of Jimmy Graham type TEs we will see.

Rather sign a free agent. Use our picks on a guard, CB, WR/RB this year. Where the depth in the class is actually good. Good player at safety, I just don't think he will be worth taking when we can sign somebody at his caliber.

I hope this Iloka love is based on his tape and not his measureables cuz well.....that would be silly.

Taylor Mays?

Yep....I'm not saying Iloka can't be a player but I hope this hype is more centered on his on-field play and not height/weight/40-time bla bla bla....

Taylor Mays was a physical freak with no football instincts.

Iloka didn't have an amazing combine. He is tall and big and very fluid for such a big guy, but not a physical freak like Mays. He is a smart guy that is very good in zone coverage and he even played corner for a little bit towards the end of the year and did quite well in man coverage. I love the kid. One of the few safety prospects in this year's draft worth getting excited about imo. If he makes it to the 3rd he would be a very solid pick.

he got exposed at the combine in the drills.  6'4" guys just cant cover like NFL DBs need to.

He doesn't need to cover like a CB. He needs to be able to play zone as safety and cover TEs in man. He can do both well.

maybe against Wyoming or Fresno St.  Doing it against NFL talent might be a little different.
