If a player like Vilma isn't cut, then gets suspended, does he still count against the cap??

Suspended players don't count versus the game for the number of games they're suspended. Like, if you're suspended for 4 games, you'll only count on the salary cap for 75% of your cap numbers.

Salary yes. Pro rated bonus still counts vs. the cap.

The Saints are improved against the run, but who is going to cover the TE.  I wanted Lofton because I thought he was the best FA, but he is an above average player and nothing special.

Saints are trying to make positive news to offset the PR disaster they are going through , which is why they keep signing people. All this patchwork signing of one dimensional lb'ers that no one else even wanted isn't going to make thier defense significantly better. Thier pass defense has actually gotten worse - bad news in a passing league.

Saw a segment on NFL network yesterday essentially saying that the Falcons, Panthers and Saints are all so low on cap room that they'll have to make cuts to sign drafted players.

I think this says the Saints already know what the suspensions are going to be and are already making moves to protect themselves.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think the Saints have had a tremendous off-season in talent acquisition. It will be interesting to see the suspensions....because that may be the only thing keeping them from 13-3 again.

I'm fine that they are going all in for a championship. On a year that their coach is suspended all year. The cap space is gonna make things tough going forward.
