How anyone can think him getting ripped is a bad thing is ridiculous.

All this jibber jabber about body fat metabolism blah be dee boom blah is just absurd.

This is nothing but a good thing.  It shows he has stopped gorging himself on Taco Hell...man, I am glad he bailed out of that program!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman has lost roughly 20 pounds in an effort to become more mobile and bounce back from a down season in 2011, according to general manager Mark Dominik.

Dominik said that Freeman's weight loss was completely voluntary, and no coach or trainer recommended he shed weight. Dominik added that Freeman has slimmed down mainly by changing his diet.

Nope, nope, that's right. Nobody told him to lose weight. They did, however, replace all the XL jerseys in his locker with L's. Call it a subtle hint, if you will, but nobody told him to lose any weight.

Honestly, that's a little worrisome to me.  Shouldn't there be someone in the building telling the Franchise QB he needs to be in better shape?

A player with good work ethic. Free want to improve as a player so I could see him doing it without on his own like Elite players do.

Why tell him if you don't have to? They know how committed Freeman is, he started working soon after the Bucs season ended.

Last year maybe.  But the Era of Error is over.  Freeman probably decided that before the new regime came in and called him Lard Azz he would take it upon himself to shed all the cornmeal and rainbow colored meat from Taco Smell.  How he canbe addicted to that gah-bage is an anomaly I will never understand, conssidering his job description, and his position on the team.

I had thought the same, but they could be saying that to cover them from penalties for breaking CBA agreements.

The Bucs have a team nutritionist on staff but they can't control what these guys pound down their throats late at night when they get the munchies. A lot of them still have their old bad college habits of eating cheap junk food when nobody is watching.

He will. He has $600,000 at stake (each year) with his weight clause in his contract. He shows up every year for training camp looking rather svelte for a big tub of lard. Unfortunately, I don't think one of his scheduled weigh-ins occurs during the latter half of the season. Penn knows how to game the system.

Freeman's weight wasn't his problem... it was his decision making.

Fat brains take longer to make decisions. They have to stop and rest.

Why didn't someone in OBP tell him last season?

Yeah, but Dominik said no coach or trainer recommended shedding weight in the first place.  He's not saying they tried to get Freeman to lose weight and he wouldn't listen.  He's saying nobody told him to lose weight and Freeman did it own his own.  That says something good about Freeman, but not about the people who should be monitoring things like this at OBP.

Biggs. His weight wasn't out of control like a Jamarcus Russell. Free decided it would be best for his health and career to slim down some.
