The Buccaneers have inserted second-round pick Lavonte David into the starting lineup at weak-side linebacker at OTAs.

Source: Stephen Holder on Twitter

Rennie Curran opened OTAs with the ones due to veteran status, but David was drafted to be the starter and will remain in the lineup into Opening Day. It's worth noting that new Bucs coach Greg Schiano is a defensive mind, and his 2011 leading tackler at Rutgers was WLB Khaseem Greene. Middle linebacker Steve Beauharnais finished a distant second. SAM 'backer Jamal Merrell was eighth.

Busy day so didn't share much from #Bucs OTA open to reporters. A few tidbits: 1st team LBs Lavonte David, Mason Foster (MLB), Quincy Black

\\\\\\\"Java, do you understand this a perfect example of why people beg me to suspend or ban you on a daily basis? Are you actually trying to make a point? Seriously what is the reason for even commenting. In fact why do you even bother coming to the boards? What happened to the intelligent poster from years ago?  A real shame. Like the Bucs yesterday, a wasted effort.\\\\\\\"

Determining who the starting LBs are in shorts and shirts is always a good idea.

Reporters reacting to a practice in terms of a "depth chart" is always a good idea as well.

A good coach always wants to see how his players rise to the challenge of playing a different position, or starting instead of being a b/u. Nothing is permanent at this very early stage...

I think Curran will become a great depth guy this year. Not surprised that Davis jumped him, but Curran probably expected this.

Why would you think Curran would be anything other than training camp fodder?     I didn't even know who he was.    Looked him up and he did nothing his rookie year, got cut, and didn't even play at all last year for any team.
