I say hold strong for 1 more year.

Why? Because many, many good QBs and some great ones (Steve Young) took 4-5 yrs to fully develop.

Look at the following QBs and say it was a good idea to cut them after a bad 4th yr.

QB #1         Steve Young
Comp %      TDs      INTs      Yrds/gm    Rating
yr 1        52.2           3          8            187          56.9
yr 2        53.7           8          13          163          65.5
yr 3        53.6          10         0             73          120.8
yr 4        53.5           3         3             61.8          72.2

QB #2        Eli Manning

yr 1       48.2           6          9             115.9       55.4
yr 2       52.8          24        17            235.1       75.9
yr 3       57.7          24        18            202.8       77.0
yr 4       56.1          23        20            208.5       73.9

QB #3          Terry Bradshaw

yr 1      38.1           6          24            108.5       30.4
yr 2      54.4          13         22            161          59.7
yr 3      47.7          12         12            134.8       64.1
yr 4      49.4          10         15            118.3       54.5

All 3 of the above won SBs in their 5th or 6th yr and all were in multiple SBs.

Naw I say if Freeman has a bad yr with a new HC and new OC give him one more yr because I don't want anymore Steve Young for a 2nd or SD letting Brees go for Rivers scenarios

I agree with Galt, with one exception. If Freeman goes downward from his 2011 form, and we wind up with a very high draft position, we should consider drafting a QB.

If we are in top 3, I'd agree

if we are drafting a QB in the top 5 of the draft it would be with a Different GM right?

I would sure hope so.

Actually the problem isnt that Freeman stinks. He is average. He puts up good numbers just often enough to make you think he is better than he is. Bad and great are convincing. But mediocre makes you live with the delusion for too many years. He is just good enough to waste our time and not good enough to get us where we want to go.

Hope we dont have to draft a QB.  Hope Freeman has a breakout year. Heck if we can run the ball and ask him to make plays only when he has to I will be okay with that also, that's all Flaco does, but he has a great D on his side.

I think we all think that, well except for Java.  I am his biggest fan, but if he doesn't light it up this season, I thinks its time to go shopping.

\\\"Java, do you understand this a perfect example of why people beg me to suspend or ban you on a daily basis? Are you actually trying to make a point? Seriously what is the reason for even commenting. In fact why do you even bother coming to the boards? What happened to the intelligent poster from years ago?  A real shame. Like the Bucs yesterday, a wasted effort.\\\"

Yup, I think it goes without saying that we all hope for Freeman's success.

I'm a big fan as well...but this is his show-me season.

My fears about freeman are not so black and white.  More of a gray.  What if he is just good enough that we don't see bring in a replacement as a crucial need but spend the next 5 years wallowing in mediocrcy? If he can't lead this team to contention level then what is the point?   there is only one objective for a NFL team.

If he is just mediocre, draft a QB anyway, and let them battle it out.  Then trade the loser.

Then we become the 49ers and Alex SMith... could be worse right ?  ;)
