Also...we allowed TEN TOTAL RUSHING YARDS to one of the best rushing teams in the league. Wow.

Rushing is about game situations. The best run defense is being ahead. They only had 13 rushing attempts. Hell, even if they'd been good they'd not have gotten many yards with that many attempts. By contrast since we were ahead we could pile on yards via carries we never saw last year. Martin wasn't "good" for a lot of the game his run stats look a lot better off that last run for example. We didn't get a lot of last runs last year,

All posts are opinions in case you are too stupid to figure that out on your own without me saying it over and over.

Even though Martin was okay, they never abandoned the run

DeAngelo WIlliams had 6 carries for negative one yard. Put a negative spin on that nub.

That is complete hogwash in this game though. For a good part of the game Carolina was only down 1 possession. There's no way your going to convince anybody here that down 6 pts, you completely forget about the running game. They abanonded the run because simply McCoy was too much to handle.

It was a well rounded game on offense. 24 passes and 29 runs. In a game were you lead the entire time, that is perfect. The drops and receptions nullified by penalties just killed drives and made it hard to get any kind of rhythm in the second half.

Good point

It indeed was a well rounded game on offense designed to move the chains and keep Carolina off the field.   Dungy ball was never like that IMO.  When Dungy was here it was 3 straight runs and a punt and try not to make any mistakes and hope that the offense could cash in on  a turnover caused by the defense. Dungy  mostly  depended on the defense and field position to insure victory.

When he went to Indy he had little if any input on Peyton's offense.  Understand I love Dungy but this didn't resemble his type of game plan from my memory which of course might be fading! ???

To make a run first team like Carolina abandon the run when the score is that close is crazy. And a huge credit to our defense. Also to keep Newton contained like that was very impressive. People were talking about how you dont stop him you limit him. THIS DEFENSE STOPPED CAM NEWTON. He had no chance against that D yesterday.

Yup...I would abandon the run too, if everytime I handed the ball off...my backs were being dropped for negative yardage..time, after time, after time, after time, after time.

Circa 1996 is being re-surfaced tonight.

Not quite. Dungy system was a read and react scheme. Schiano/Sheridan system attacks more than reacts. Same result though.
