My Grandpa owned a bunch of hogs.    We used to ride on their backs as kids.   They were harmless as long as they were fed.

Once they get a taste for blood they're not so harmless. This can happen as easily as an injured bird getting caught in the hog pen. An animal that weighs half a ton and thinks you might be tasty is always dangerous.

Pigs are smarter and easier to train than dogs.   But they get too big and have to be put outside.   I still think they are harmless if handled properly.

Had a friend whose dad spear hunted wild boards in arkansas. Saw the spear and about 1/2 way up the shaft it had a crossbar. I asked what that was for. He explained that without it the hogs would get speared and then just run up the shaft and gore the hell out of you if that wasn't there.

Nasty critters.
