The Buccaneers managed just 314 net yards in their 23-21 loss to the Eagles on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. How did QB Josh Freeman grade out? What about the Bucs offensive line. Find out these answers and more in this weekly postgame Pewter Report feature.

"lackluster QB play doomed the Bucs chances of winning"

Head of nail, meet hammer.

Larsen's penalty at the end hurt.  Badly.

Also, not going for the 1st down on 3rd and 8 hurt. Inexcusable.

EastEnd (in the story comments) disagreed with my D grade for Freeman. I think it is pretty much right on. What do y'all think?

I think your grades are spot on. Freeman is getting more pressure and certainly hit more often due to the Oline poor pass blocking, but there are a lot of quality QB's that face the same thing and still perform. Heck, the Eagles QB was under even more pressure and he got the job done. a D grade for Freeman and the C- for the Oline, despite the rushing yards, is spot on.

Too harsh I think. He laid an egg in the first half but I thought he was solid the second half. C+

9/18 for 128 yards is a solid half of football?

TD's Shmeedies. We all know completing first half passes is what stops a rookie 3rd rounder from tossing for nearly 400 yards and two TD's in the last 3 minutes of the game on you.

I sure wish Freeman would have thrown for nearly 400 yards and two TD's in the last 3 minutes of the game.    All he could muster was a gimme TD on a muffed punt getting the ball at the 5 yard line.

His point basically is, he stunk, but not as bad as the defense... so overall he's didn't do that poorty?  No, that's crap.  He didn't do enough to put them in position to win.  It was the Eagles that were so bad that they couldn't put more points on the board.  If Freeman was even average in the first half, the Bucs at worst would probably be tied at halftime.  If he played a consistent "C" level game throughout, they win that game by 2 TD's.  If Freeman was good enough and enough of a leader, he'd have told Schiano and Sullivan to let him get the first downs... not hand the ball off.  The fact is, neither Schiano, Sullivan, or Freeman had the confidence in Freeman to throw 5-7 yard patterns for completions.  THAT's why he gets a "D"... I'd even consider an "F", but he did have some really nice throws.

What a crock. The Eagles are starting a rookie 3rd rounder at QB, a rookie RB, have a mediocre O-Line, and are down their best WR. That is what put up nearly 400 yards passing and two TD's with just over 3 minutes left in the game on us. And let's not forget the two missed FG's. They could have just as easily put up nearly 30 points on our defense. Get your heads out of your butts people...

Are you really trying to make the argument Freeman didn't play like crap for three quarters?  Why is that so difficult for you admit?

As crappy as the defense played in the last 5 minutes of the game, they held the Eagles to 10 points the previous 55 minutes.  If Freeman was worth a flip the first three quarters of the football game, the score wouldn't have been close.  That's the reality of the situation.  No b/s, no excuses.
