This playoff idea is crap.    There's no need to change it, it's already perfect.

Going to 18 games and getting rid of 2 preseason rip offs is a great idea though.

Wow, and if they expand the season to 18 games like they are talking about, we would be watching football into April.

Sounds good to me.

February is too soon. I want more football!

But as others have said, I doubt they do both.

Horrible idea.  Average teams don't deserve the playoffs and that is what this idea promotes.

Any system that allows a team with a losing record to be in the playoffs is a bad one.

Average? You have any idea how hard it is to just go 8-8 in the NFL?

If they did it the way I laid it out, all you'd be doing is making four Wildcard teams from each conference, play each other to see which two really deserve the chance to be in the playoffs. That doesn't dilute anything. All it does it add a week of football for us fans, and make it even tougher on wildcard teams.....which makes it even more important to win your division.

having 16 teams make the playoffs is awesome. more playoffs the better. also i would be willing to bet the announcement of a 16 team playoffs will be link directly to expansion of 2 or more teams.

Indeed I don't like 8-8 teams making the playoffs. Hell the Seahawks made it with this system and they were 7-9. Can you imagine if a 6-10 team get in. The season and the playoffs will lose a little luster.

In the overall scheme of things, 8-8 is still considered average. I don't see how that can be argued.

Hell, brees might not be as accurate as manziel.

8-8 is technically average, but if you can get in and get hot and beat every other playoff team and win the Super Bowl....then who cares? I mean, just last year the Giants finished 9-7 and then made it all the way to the Super Bowl and won it. Did that make the playoffs less prestigious?

Horrible idea.

Jets in the playoffs?

Screw that.

Don't dilute the product.

New Update

Quote
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell drew a strong reaction when he talked about expanding the playoffs to 14 or 16 teams earlier this week. It's not the first time the topic has come up, but NFL.com's Albert Breer explained Friday that the details surrounding this proposal will be different.

Breer reported that this playoff expansion talk will come as part of larger considerations to reformat the NFL season. Any proposal for adding postseason games likely would come with the elimination of some preseason games, perhaps with a move to a 16-and-2 format with just two preseason weeks.

Goodell often has spoken about the poor quality of NFL preseason games. The most likely scenario would be to lop off two weeks entirely.

Breer reported there was no discussion about expanding the playoffs at the meeting in Dallas this week; the idea simply was introduced. It will be discussed further at the league's annual meeting in March.

When the concept first was broached in 2006 by then-Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt, fellow NFL owners quickly turned it down. Perhaps Goodell publicly floated the idea to see what the reaction would be. From what we can tell, it hasn't been positive.

It's all a tactic by Goodell to distract us from the bounty gate flop.
