Im not against taking DL with first choice. They just really need to get better at the corner position either through FA or draft. Actually both really. DE is an important position for success in this league but CB is the team weaklink. Which one is the priority?

i believe the two picks before montgomery were dion jordan and jarvis jones.  would much rather have one of those guys and i havent even seen jordan play, just know some of you guys love him.

Also worth noting that they had Tuck, Canty, Osi, Kiwanuka, and Bernard on the DL when they spent a 1st on JPP.

canty and bernard were DT's.  kiwi had moved to LB and was only playing DE when injuries occured? 

did the giants select JPP because he was a DE or because they thought he was the BPA?

Notice I said DL, not DE. I was pointing all of the noteworthy guys they had on the DL who wreak havoc in pass rush.

Kiwanuka has moved back and forth and it's a credit to his versatility, but the point remains the same that he was still a viable pass rusher on this team at the time JPP was drafted.

They probably drafted JPP cause they saw him as the BPA. I am an advocate of doing the same. If they like a guy like Rhodes over a guy like Montgomery, so be it...but if they have 3-4 DLmen rated higher than the CBs, then you take one of the DLmen.

Jarvis Jones has spine synopsis - the same injury that cut Marcus McNeil career short at 28 years old. Jones will not be a first round pick.

I would rather have Montgomery's teamate Mingo. Bucs need to draft an athletic freak at the defensive end position. Lately a lot of these pass rush specialists have been freaks of nature such as Pierre paul and Aldon smith.

Mingo would scare the heck out of me.  I know it's cliche at this point to compare guys to Gaines, but it's hard not to see parallels in their games.  At least Gaines produced his last year in college.

only issue is smith was 263 at combine.  JPP was 270.  mingo is listed at 240 currently.

At that point, you ask yourself - what group is more likely to see organic growth? The one with an elite collegiate DE who is playing pretty well at 75% of health, and a who will get back a first rounder next season, or the one filled with former 7th rounders?

We need a pash rush SPECIALIST, Montgomery is not that. We'd essentially be getting another Bennett. I want to draft BPA on defense, but I really want a freak DE.
Sign DRC, draft BPA on D, then use the 2-4 rounds on 2 CBs and a safety.
