DE Osi Umenyiora sounds ready to move on from New York Giants

There will be some changes on the New York Giants defensive line in 2013, and DE Osi Umenyiora sounds like he is ready to move on from the only team he has ever played for. The Giants struggled in the second-half of the regular season, losing five of their last eight games, failing to return to the post-season in 2012. The Giants defensive really struggled, ranking 28th against the pass and 25th against the run.
 
As a guest on the Michael Kay Show on Tuesday, Osi Umenyiora certainly sounded as if he is ready to leave New York. He expressed displeasure with being used as a situational pass rusher and wants the opportunity to be an every down defensive end.
 
“I feel fortunate to be able to play in New York. It was a great run. I think now is probably the time to move on. There’s really not much left for me to accomplish here in New York,” Umenyiora told the radio host.
 
Umenyiora recorded six sacks in 2012 despite making just four starts. He has recorded 75 career sacks in his 10 seasons with the Giants. The Troy product will turn 32 in November and should generate significant interest in free agency this year.

I'd sign him. He's not elite any longer but for the right price he could bring an attitude to that Dline room

Exactly, and he would NOT be paid as such if he were to come to Tampa. What Osi would bring to this team is a "guy who has done it" experience and attitude. He was part of a feared defensive line and can help teach other young players some technique.

I'd sign him for that and move Bennett inside on third downs!

He's still good enough to be our pass rush specialist and play every 3rd down above Clayborn. That would make our defense better . Clayborn is a lackluster pass rusher.

I think you take miller out in obvious passing downs and put Bennett in the middle with a mix of clayborne, bowers and Osi on the outside

I would be all for acquiring Osi, but as long a Sheridan has an office at OBP, Osi will stay far away from Tampa and will ignore any calls from a Tampa area code.

Ladyfan, IMHO, he takes the money and goes to NY. He will be Osi's replacement. BTW, I hope he stays....at a reasonable price.

I would actually be thrilled with signing him and drafting another DE, if thats how the draft played out

Dude is 32 years old.  A healthy Bowers and Clayborn will be fine.  But I suppose some team will reach and give him 35mil for 3 years or something, and cut him after one year.
