Why not actually carry three QBs and bring in a guy who can help with Sullivan's offense (if he stays)? David Carr knows it.

They did talk to him last year but didn't work out

 Interesting. He's an UFA again.

just draft a developmental QB. Honestly i don't see any QB beating out Freeman in the short term future

I get the need for competition, but from who? Flacco is the only comparable QB that is scheduled for FA and I don't think Baltimore is letting him leave. The only current UFA that I would consider would Matt Moore from Miami. Not a world beater but a decent QB with some starting experience. He is a step up from Orlovsky. Alex Smith could be a candidate if he is released. Matt Cassel is another possibility.

No.

A player that has no future in the league/with the team is not competition in my mind.

I want the competition to be a guy that if he comes in and replaces Josh and plays well. Then he might be the guy for the next 4-10 years.

There is a flip side to that though.  Any QB worth his salt, wouldn't come here knowing he is probably not going to beat out Freeman.   A draft pick wouldn't have any choice.

\\\\\\\"Java, do you understand this a perfect example of why people beg me to suspend or ban you on a daily basis? Are you actually trying to make a point? Seriously what is the reason for even commenting. In fact why do you even bother coming to the boards? What happened to the intelligent poster from years ago?  A real shame. Like the Bucs yesterday, a wasted effort.\\\\\\\"

isn't Matt Moore simply a good candidate for a back up? How is that competition? Am I thinking of the wrong guy? the guy who for the panthers had something like a 15-20 td to int ratio, and a mid 50% comp rate? That's not a guy for competition, that's a guy who is number 2 and is a capable backup.

Well, bringing in Romo or Carr or some other re-tread should make the Grudenites here very happy with Schiano since that is what Gruden always did - bring in a has been or a failed wannabee.

Draft a QB in the 3rd round this year.

If we have a Carr on the team I would prefer it to be Derek Carr in the 5th (If he decides to leave early, I don't think he will but.....)

 Derek Carr*, QB, Fresno State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 205.
Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
Projected Round (2013): 3-5.
12/1/12: Carr completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,742 yards, 36 touchdowns and five interceptions this year. The junior didn't stand out in losses to Oregon, Boise State and Tulsa.

8/16/12: The younger brother of David Carr, Derek Carr is an improving quarterback who was a 2011 Second-Team All-WAC selection as a redshirt sophomore. The first-year starter completed 63 percent of his passes for 3,544 yards with 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He ran for three scores too.

Carr has a strong arm and good mechanics. The junior should continue to improve, and if he stays for his senior season, could push himself up into the top half of the draft.
