offseason scenarios...which would you choose?

Not sure why the Bucs would spend a draft pick (any round) on a DE, especially if Bennett and Daniel Teo'Nesheim is retained. In that scenario we would have Clayborn, Bowers, Bennett, and Teo'Nesheim at DE. I think the recent and unfortunate injuries for the past several seasons have people forgetting how stacked the Bucs are at DE.

Thats not saying they won't spend a draft pick on the D-line, as we could really use a third DT to rotate with either Miller, McCoy, or both.

because as a team they only managed 27. even if you say clayborn is good for the 7.5 he put up last year thats not even 35, and thats why they need to draft a DE...agree about the DT 100% though

Don't you think our historic defensive backfield had more to do with the low sack total than the players? Couple that with the major injuries sustained up front and I think you need to overlook the season's sack total when evaluating the current stable of DEs.

no, in fact i think its the other way around. i think the low sack totals directly contributed to the historically bad defensive backfield. and thats not taking away from their ability against the run, but they flat-out failed at getting to the QB. even when they brought the blitz they still couldn't bring people down, and as a result opposing QB's had all day to pick the secondary apart.

i'm not saying there isn't talent along the d-line, because there definitely is. however, the giants have shown what a ferocious pass rush can do, especially when you have the horses to rotate players and not miss a beat...it makes up for sub-par secondaries. IMO the bucs need to keep bennett and bring in another pass-rush specialist.

Yeah, and lets say Bowers didn't get hurt during offseason practices. I think he would have been good for at least another 8 sacks on the year. That would have been over 42 sacks on the year at least. Thats a pretty good number for such a young group of guys.

bowers had 3 sacks after returning...in 10 games. yes, i'll acknowledge that he was rounding into form, but i'm not sure he would have been a 10+ sack guy given the level of production he showed when he was in there. i am excited about the talent that is currently there on the d-line especially with mccoy, bennett (hopefully) and bowers and clayborn healthy, but to suggest that it wouldn't benefit from adding some legit speed at the position when the pass rush was so anemic is like putting lipstick on a pig

We need some freak type speed off the edge to go with the quickness of McCoy's first step. The pass rush specialist would do wonders for our secondary I think.

Lol. No doubt. Would be nice to upgrade the RG position with a cheaper/younger/healthier player with a much higher ceiling.

I think it would be bad ass if on draft day he walks up on the stage to shake hands with the commish with his tux rolled up. That would be classic.

I think the past these DEs have had with injuries has to wave a red flag. They shouldnt be feeling 100 percent confident about that position even though they have invested a lot into it. I know guys are saying but we will have Clayborn and Bowers back healthy. Really? We know this?? I would not be upset if they invested a lot to DE position again this offseason. Either signing somebody or drafting somebody high. Whats the worst case scenario? Nobody gets hurt and we have a great rotation of guys going.
