...I feel bad for finding that hilarious...

It doesn't look good for Manti, but this was an interesting take:

http://collegespun.com/big-east/notre-dame/a-notre-dame-students-take-on-manti-teos-dead-girlfriend-hoax#.UPhm0ie7Pcz

I think he's supposed to have a press conference today to tell his side of the story.
This line from the article:
"His manners would make any mother blush and he goes to mass with Tim Tebow-like regularity he truly seems like the kind of guy that youd want your daughter to marry someday."
...just about stopped be from reading further, seeing as neither Manti nor Timmay are Catholic, so why would they regularly go to mass?
Also, since I don't, nor never plan to, have a daughter, maybe Manti will marry her!

And pay him in magic beans.. He'll believe that's a fortune if Dom shows him that on the Internet.

Playing devils advacate. For the past few years we all have heard of people having online relationships and not meeting them in person. By the time many of us hear it one person has been scammed for money from their online love. Lets not forget about "family members" from Africa claiming people have an inheritance and can receive it for a small fee. Yes this story sounds and smells fishy but this facebook generation has no problem calling people real friends when they have little to no human interaction with them. Just like saying who really took cyber bullying seriously 10 years ago?

When I was attending Texas A&M, sometime around 1998, we had a student from A&M who had been "catfished" (never heard that term till today, but yes I am admittedly and thankfully a little out of touch) on Craigslist.  When he traveled to Austin, I think, to meet the girl he had been communicating with, his "girlfriend", he never returned.  He was found murdered a week or two later. Crazy stuff has been happening since the internet came into being.

I'm all for spreading love in the world, but if Manti was that gullible/stupid in this day and age, then........I just don't know, but damn that's dumb.

Anyway....Even if he is cleared of any wrongdoing,  I would stay away from him.    At the very least,  he has shown poor judgement.

\\\\\\\"Java, do you understand this a perfect example of why people beg me to suspend or ban you on a daily basis? Are you actually trying to make a point? Seriously what is the reason for even commenting. In fact why do you even bother coming to the boards? What happened to the intelligent poster from years ago?  A real shame. Like the Bucs yesterday, a wasted effort.\\\\\\\"

Took me a while to find it, and I apologize for getting some details wrong, but for any interested here is how this poor kid met his end in an online relationship:

SAN MARCOS (AP) - A man accused of killing a Texas A&M student he had lured by posing as a woman on the Internet has committed suicide in the Hays County Jail.
Kenny Wayne Lockwood, 32, of San Antonio was found dead Saturday on his cell bunk, his wrist cut.

This cracks me up:

http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/8855822/florence-freedom-ballclub-manti-teo-girlfriend-bobblehead-day

As part of the promotion in late May, the first 1,000 fans will get an empty bobblehead box, there will be a pretend kiss cam for fans to kiss their imaginary friends and there will be an imaginary food fight in the kids' area, as well as an air guitar contest.

Are you implying that Manti is an alcoholic?  Up in AK those are worth free drinks at the bar!  As much as I like having a pocket full of wooden nickels, though, I don't think getting paid in them would work out to well.

I spent quite a bit of time reading all of this Manti crap yesterday evening, and I have to say the whole thing is **CENSORED**ed Up!  If the ND AD doesn't lose his job over this, then ND boosters and Alum are all as gullible as they say Manti is.  That the university would go along with the story after they new it was bull**CENSORED** is beyond reproach in my book.  They sent a media team out to interview the guy that started the fundraiser after the national championship game and promote the fundraiser in the fake girl's name after they had known about it for over a month.  Seriously, heads should roll.  All of this shows such an utter lack of integrity by all involved, that it goes well beyond the borders of the absurd.

The media are now also looking like complete idiots in this.  At least the NYT editor has come out and admitted to bad reporting and the need for their reporters to be more thorough in their work.  I have seen several other media members, including national sources (ESPN, SI) and local newsies making excuses and saying things like "Come on, really, who's going to fact check a story like that.  When someone tells you their GF died, you don't imagine it could be a hoax."  Maybe not, but your job as a journalist is to stand behind what you print, and you can only truly do that if you check things out and make sure.  The other thing is that everyone admits there were plenty of red flags regarding the holes and weaknesses in his story from the get go, so why not check it out.  A lot of people were exposed on this one, and it seems like no one is going to take the fall other than Manti's draft stock.  Just in case I didn't already have a thing against ND, now it is truly cemented.
