The guy who got cut was the instigator and simply wouldn't leave the 49er fan alone.    He's in stable condition after being slashed in defense by the 49er fan and the 49er fan is not in custody.

(Assempt) murder means necessary to defend himself? What if the falcons fan then pulls a gun and 'just defends himself' from getting stabbed?

Depends how much bigger the Falcons fan was.   If the 9ers fan was a little guy, then it was justified.   That Falcons fan was huge.

Throwing a  punch at someone else deserves to be punished, just stabbing a knife into someones neck for is over the top. You could make a case how the falcon fan actually tried to defend himself from getting stabbed. His failure makes him to be at fault? The 9ers fans, as it turned, was a threat to the Falcons fans life, the 9ers fan prolly just was threatened by a black eye.

None of us knows the circumstances, but odds are the 9er fan was celebrating and obnoxious. That doesn't justify the attack. Odds are also pretty good that the 9er fan was outnumbered and fearful of serious injury. A Giants fan was killed in Philly after a game. The threat of the knife should have been enough to deter the fowlgoon fan. Stupid people deserve what they get. He got cut. He didn't die. The 9er fan had the opportunity to kill him and didn't. You can't prove intent other than to defend himself. It's a game people. There's nothing about it worth death or injury.
