They were supposedly close on and off the field in Dallas and Garrett could attract Bennett to the Bucs.

Going into year 5 and our QB is still stuck in his rookie learning curve!!!

I think we already have the "good" Bennett.. Hope we just bring Michael back. Not impressed with his brother.

While it's much more important to keep Michael Bennett, I'd love to have Martellus on board.

I wouldn't have said that last year, but I think he showed a ton of improvement in New York. He's a great blocker and a size mismatch.

Why didn't this friendship with Garrett keep Bennett in Dallas?

I don't see where TE bennett is worth a lot of money.. Really neither of them would be worth big money IMO

He was a disappointment on the field. He was their version of Arrelious Benn.

Actually the problem isnt that Freeman stinks. He is average. He puts up good numbers just often enough to make you think he is better than he is. Bad and great are convincing. But mediocre makes you live with the delusion for too many years. He is just good enough to waste our time and not good enough to get us where we want to go.

I agree with you baybuc35. DE Bennett is, statistically speaking, very similar  to Justin Tuck in March 2008. That was when Tuck signed a 5 year/ $30 million contract. In 2007 Tuck posted 48 tackles, 10 sacks, and 2 FF. Compare that with Bennett's 34 tackles, 9 sacks, and 3 FF. I think Bennett is going to command around $5-6 million a year, maybe a little  more or less depending on whether or not Dominik can lure his brother to Tampa.

I like what Bennett did for us this year but I feel like hes gonna cost too much for us. Were gonna have Clayborn back next year and that means Bennett, Bowers, TN will play less than they did this year. I just dont want to pay him like hes a 10 sack guy. I dont think thats what he is. He played great this year but I dont know if he can ever do that again. I want to resign him and all but I feel like his asking price will be too much.

I didn't realize the Cowboys had zero interest in re-signing Bennett.  I thought the Giants just offered more money.

He is a 9 sack guy, who forced 3 fumbles, and defensed a few passes.

Everything that I remember hearing is that Dallas wouldn't pay over a certain amount for a player who was still running on the fumes of his potential, instead of actually producing.

I also know that there was a lot of animosity toward him from their fanbase, because they expected him to be Antonio Gates 2.0.

So I definitely don't disagree that the Giants out bid them, but IIRC, it was also a scenario that both parties could have felt a change of scenery would be mutually beneficial.

*update*

Bennett stated that he wanted to leave Dallas so that he could be the no.1 TE elsewhere...

He got a 1 yr - $2.5mil deal last year. Had decent production. So maybe a 3 year - $9-10 mil deal.

I love his production from this year and all, I just dont want to over pay him. I think 7-10 is ok. Anything more is a bad deal and one I feel fans would come back and complain about Dom giving a nother bad deal. I hope he doesnt do it this year again.
