I question any report like this that doesnt have energy/gas at the top of all concerns. It's an expense that businesses incure from contractors and customers, not to mention your own over head cost. But hey, it cost money to make money so...

JG, you wonder who in our government does the financial ẃhat if' modeling. Your horseback math example is pretty straight forward and doesn´t require a PHD from Wharton to understand. He will pay just enough attention to the economy so it doesn't prevent him from doing what he wants to. No more, no less. He does not care how much debt he accrues, that will be up to someone else to sort out after he has implemented his social programs which will be nigh on impossible to repeal once he has them in place.
One who can't see that social issues have a direct impact on the economy is truly missing the point entirely.
