     Colts over the Cowboys would be my choice. That was the year after Shula left Baltimore for Miami. Can't think of a thing personnel-wise McCaffrey did, and as noted they played awful in the Super Bowl. But the Cowboys were even worse. Painful game to watch...

     Totally disagree with the Weeb Ewbank comment. Yeah, Namath's boast at the time was all the rage, but it was Ewbank's strategy to run FB Matt Snell at the Colts D, which Ewbank knew was built for speed and somewhat undersized. Jets had a very powerful O'line, so Ewbank's strategy worked brilliantly. The Jets played keepaway and controlled the clock with an unexpected and effective power run game. Namath was FAR from dominant, and actually had less than 200 yards passing... I'll give him credit for managing the game and sticking to Ewbank's game-plan, but suggesting Ewbank didn't deserve credit is way off base!
      Dungy and Gruden did what was needed personnel-wise to push very opposite teams over the top. Both deserve credit, IMO.

Of course Tony Dungy gets credit - all the credit due the HC.  Same with Gruden, and Switzer, and all the others.  That said - one needs the players - see Belichick in Cleveland vs his time in NE with Brady....

Yep, he could have came in there and ran his Oklahoma, but kept everything the way it is.  It is rare when teams repeat.  It was not given that the Cowboys would repeat.  He didn't let his ego switch systems.  He was smart enough to manage with the same philosophy that made that team great.  A lot of NFL coaches are egomaniacs, and would have changed the team to put their stamp on it.  He was smart enough not to do that, and deserves his Super Bowl.

A head coach is a manager, especially back in the early 90's.  Head coaches did not call the plays, that was the job of the coordinators.  He was the head coach when they made and won the Super Bowl.  The most talented team does not always win.  He managed the team and won.  Now I do not think he was a great coach by any means, but he deserves his Super Bowl win, nor do I like him or the Cowboys.   What he did at Oklahoma does not have anything to do with making and winning a SB.
