how many FAs did we sign/trades made in the years leading up to our Super Bowl win?

FAs were acquired to supplement the core.... not create one.
Ummm -not the offense.  D was mostly home grown, O was mostly FAs.  And it was the offense that was missing as you know.  And it was the defense where almost 2/3s of the money was committed iirc.

I won't argue that at all.... but once the defense was aged & dismantled, we had nothing!!!!

how many 1st and 2nd round picks did Glazers/McKay give up again to get that Super Bowl championship

and how many did we waste afterwards?

Clayton, Carnell, Gaines, Sears, Sabby and Dexter Jackson 2.0 immediately come to mind. Those guys, in their second contracts, would have forced the Glazers to spend. Would they have not?

So you are arguing by not spending on second contracts the bucs were precluded from any significant Free Agency hiring...  and recall - 32 of 32 by tens of millions... we aren't talking about a couple of players...

I do. I also contend you spend to when you're rdy to make the next step.....not to build a foundation. We had nothing to build upon....but that's just my opinion.

Couple of things:

1.  Yet Gruden won in 3 of his last 4 seasons
2.  How many "wasted" 1 and 2nd round picks did McKay/Dungy have?
3.  Not sure why a 1st or 2nd round pick not panning out should preclude spending in FA to supplement

LMAO  -- and here I was thinking a few people would post "I was wrong"    :-[

The Glazer were not cheap when they bought the team, but then got cheap, and then got uncheap.  LOL.

Actually, the Glazer boys force Gru/Allen to draft all those guys (and to make sure a couple were injured and one went crazy) just so they wouldn't have to spend on those 2nd contracts.  It was all a devious plot to save the cheap Glazers money!! The plot was so smart it was stupid!!  ???

Let\\\\\\\'s Go Bucs!!

Five years and no playoffs...going on six...

And now a full decade without a playoff win.

Blame Gruden for constantly signing old veterans no not giving the young guys a legit shot at playing. That left us with 2 years of playing our draftees trying to figure out who stays and goes.
