Dominik’s Drafting History Hints at Future Selections for Buccaneers

dominik has shown he's not afraid of questionable injuries.  grab him in the first, a guy like rhodes/ryan/davis in the second, and a guy like escobar/sims/williams in the 3rd...a quality CB and a martellus bennett (loadholt as gravy) and thats a pretty swell offseason in my mind.

There are pretty wildly divergent opinions out there on where Jones will go.  While it's certainly possible that he'll slip due to health concerns, I'm not sure it's a complete given.

Up untill now I had written Jones off assuming he wouldn't slide to 13. I'd love to get him, watching his film Schiano must be salivating at his sack fumbles....

I bet half the board freaks out if we draft him though....a safety then a linebacker with two top picks. Not to mention a SLB who won't be on the field in nickel.

I remain unconvinced that Jones couldn't slide down to DE on passing downs.  At the least, I would expect to see more 3-man fronts on passing downs with him rushing the passer from the LB position.  Whether or not that would be a good thing would wait to be seen, of course.  Traditionally, those have caused me to twitch as they NEVER seem to work.  With Jones in lieu of Black though, who knows?

Not even close I'm afraid. First of all, were talking about our first round pick, not our second. Secondly, Gronkowski injured his back lifting weights. Injuries usually heal. Spinal stenosis is not an injury, it is a degenerative condition that usually gets worse with age, and wear and tear. It is a giant red flag.

Schiano did say we need to improve at blitzing.  Drafting Jones would definitely accomplish that goal, along with adding more beef on the interior front line i.e. drafting Hankins, Star, Jesse Williams.

It's more the way that the Chargers got McNeill.  I think one could make a reasonable case that IF Jones played at at high level to an age comparable to what McNeill retired at, it would still be worth it.  Sure, you'd prefer to get a guy who'll be with your team for 10-15 years.  But there are worse things than having a quality player for 6-8 years or so.  It is yet another thing to go wrong though, of course.  If you don't get those years of top play, you're even more hosed than you would be otherwise.

gronk slid due to injury concerns.  jones is rumored to slide to due injury concerns.  i sure wont argue that its the very exact identical situation, so are we just arguing to argue?

as for spinal stenosis, i dont know too much about it, im certainly no doctor.  charlie cambpell wrote this - "Jones' medical condition is a spinal stenosis that happened as a freshman at USC. and as acacius mentioned...if jones career turned out similar (i dont believe jones will be moved to LT) and we get 6-8 pro bowl caliber seasons of a passrusher...is it worth the pick?

I'd add that Dominik's willingness to take risks has been limited to knees - I believe he mentioned that they have a good feel for knee injuries. I'd also point out that we were nervous about Marcus McNeil coming out of college - he also had stenosis. While Dom wasn't the boss then, Hickey was involved in draft, and likely most of the medical team.

I'm not dead-set against it, but it's going to take a lot of medical tire-kicking first.

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal. How does something like that happen on a hit? (short of having your spine crushed) Doesn't make sense.
